Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Player Rashee Rice

The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening stating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and were in communication with the league office.

The team omitted the name of the player specifically in their announcement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Claims Shared on Social Media

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name Rice directly, posted a set of images on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She stated the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.

Police Reports Currently Unavailable

No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.

Rice's Recent Legal Issues

The receiver missed the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that left several individuals injured. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.

On the field, Rice finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
