Trump Welcomes Relatives of Shot National Guard Personnel to White House

President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a National Guard member killed last week to come to the presidential home.

He noted that he spoke to her family and they were “heartbroken”.

Information on the Heartbreaking Incident

Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a violent incident on Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in critical condition.

Vigils across West Virginia have been held in their memory.

Presidential Invitation

The commander-in-chief explained he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to honor her,” the president informed reporters. “And similarly with him, whether he recovers or not.”

Community Reaction

Attendees assembled over the weekend at a local school in the state to pay respects to Sarah.

Both they had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to support law enforcement in Washington DC.

Paying Tribute to the Soldier

“Sarah was the individual that instructors desired. She carried herself with calm resilience, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that inspired people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the Associated Press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always ready to help others.”

Funeral plans for Beckstrom are still being arranged.

Judicial Steps and Government Revisions

Authorities have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with a charge of murder and charges of attempted murder while armed.

The event led the administration to pause asylum applications and temporarily stop issuing entry permits to owners of Afghan passports.

Condition of Wolfe

Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the AP.

He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia governor the governor mentioned on a news program.

The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed the program that she planned to visit his relatives.

Legacy of Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County High in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a military police officer with honor, according to the military.

“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had courage,” Morrisey told the gathering at the memorial. “Though her life ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.”
